Care of Soft Leather Baby Shoes

Caring for your Chloe Toes soft leather shoes is easy.

To keep leather supple and help prevent stains, you may wish to apply a leather conditioning treatment or mink oil prior to their being worn.

Shoes with minor soiling may be wiped clean with a damp cloth and mild soap or leather cleaner.  More extensively soiled shoes may be hand-washed in warm water with mild soap or washed in the washing machine on gentle cycle with a mild detergent.  Beware that certain colors of leather may bleed dye when wet (especially reds and dark shades).

After washing, damp shoes may be set out or hung up to dry.  They may also be tumbled in the dryer on low heat until partially dry.  Washing may result in some minor distortion of the shape of the shoes.  To reshape them, you may use a smooth, blunt object such as the rounded side of a spoon, inserted into the shoe to smooth the leather back into shape.  Shoes may also be stuffed with tissue paper to hold their shape as they dry.

Shoe leather may feel stiff following washing and drying.  Partial machine drying may result in softer shoes.  But do NOT use fabric softeners.  Once dry, the leather may be treated with mink oil or a leather conditioner that will help soften and protect it.  The shoes should also soften up with wearing.

With wearing, the sueded soles of the shoes may become smooth and slippery.  To restore traction, rub the shoe soles with sandpaper or a stiff-bristled brush to "rough up" the soles, making them less slippery.
